How can I attach an external microphone to Sony Handycam HDRSR10E?

I have now discovered that shotgun mic and wireless ‘bluetooth’-type mics can be attached to the hotshoe on the top of the camera. You can also attach a light to this hotshoe but not, I guess, at the same time as a mic!
