Alice Erin asked:

The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a hand-held gaming console released by Sony Computer Entertainment. The PSP is considered the world’s first hand-held video game system which has used an optical disc format. The unit is equipped with gaming-oriented controls like the PlayStation face buttons, two shoulder buttons, a digital 4-directional pad, screen brightness, music settings and “Home” button for accessing the system’s main menu.

The unit is currently available in seven colours. The unit’s 166 MHz graphics chip has 2MiB embedded memory that provides for hardware polygon & NURBS rendering, environment projection & texture mapping, clipping, texture compression & tessellation and dithering, all in 16 or 24 bit colour. The PSP weighs 280 gm (including the battery) and measures 170 mm x 74 mm x 23 mm. It is equipped with a TFT LCD screen which is capable of displaying 16.77 million colours with a resolution of 482 x 272 pixels.

The system has 32 MiB main RAM and 4MiB of eDRAM out of which 2MiB is dedicated to the Graphics Unit. The system’s CPU contains 16 KiB of two-way set associative instruction cache and data cache memories. The unit is capable of rendering 33 million flat-shaded polygons per second with a file rate of 664 pixels per second. The PSP is able to play back movies on a Universal Media Disk (UMD) format and its Image Viewer displays a variety of image formats like JPEG, Bitmap and PNG.

The unit’s main menu interface consists of a horizontal sequence of icons which shows a vertical sequence of sub-icons when highlighted. Interestingly enough, any videos downloaded to the PSP can be viewed through a streaming USB connection to any Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 which then makes them viewable on a television. The unit can be connected to a wireless network through Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11b. This allows PSP players to create a local network of multi-player game-play and also allows them to connect to the Internet.

Sony Playstation 3 : Pushing Limits of the Virtual World

Raina Kelsey asked:

It has been more than twelve years since the Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony has entered the gaming space. Since their first gaming console offering, Sony PlayStation has been successful in craving out a special name in the game player’s niche. Till recently, PlayStation’s legacy remained untouchable and its leadership barely challenged. However, with the launch of seventh generation gaming consoles from two other major player in the league, namely Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony PlayStation lost good grounds in terms of market share and brand loyalty.

Their latest seventh generation gaming console – the Sony PlayStation 3 seeks to win back lost grounds. The PlayStation 3 was first launched in Japan – the company’s home ground on November 11, 2006, with the North American release coming a mere six days later on November 17, 2006. The system was then released in Europe and Australasia on March 23, 2007. Right from day one of its launch, the gaming console gained enormous popularity among all gamers around the world. According to Media Create, 81,639 PS3 systems were sold within 24 hours of its introduction in Japan. Initially, the Sony PlayStation 3 was available in two configurations – 20GB and 60 GB. However, the 20GB module was discontinued after a while due to lack of demands and was replaced by an even higher 80GB module.

The PlayStation 3 is based on open and publicly available application programming interfaces. The PlayStation 3 includes the ability to store different user profiles, explore down loaded photos, play music and movies from the hard drive, compatibility for a USB keyboard and mouse for additional aid in navigation through its user interface and computer like game play, and a full fledged web browser. These features and options gives a Sony PlayStation 3 user the freedom to diversify the usage of the gaming console apart from its primary function – to play high quality video games.

The new Sony Play Station is a 32 bit videogame console of fifth generation. Launched by Sony Computer Entertainment in December 1994, it was the first of the ubiquitous PlayStation series of console and hand-held game devices. It was the first the PlayStation and PS video game console to reach the 100 million mark. Sony had plans of developing a Nintendo compatible, which was a Sony-branded console more of a home entertainment system playing based on the format used in SNES-CD discs but later got it shelved. .

The PlayStation was launched for the first time in Japan in 1994, later in the U.S. in 1995 and the Europe in the same year. The logo of the PlayStation was designed by Manabu Sakamoto, who also designed the logo for Sony’s VAIO computer products. PlayStation enjoyed one of the longest production runs in the video game industry since its launch eleven years back.

In the production run, the Sony PlayStation had to experience various variants, mostly accompanied by a change in the part number. The Sony Play Station was earlier based on substantially the same hardware as the SCPH-750x and 900x, other model consoles, but with a deleted the serial port, the controller / memory card ports moved to the main PCB and the power supply replaced with a DC-DC converter which was also on the main PCB.

Sony also released a version dubbed “Dual Shock” later, which included a controller with 2 analog sticks and a built in force-feedback feature.

Sony Ericsson W950i: Enjoy Music the Smarter Way

Adam Caitlin asked:

Till recently, Sony Ericsson had just one dedicated line up of Symbian smart phones – the P series. Unlike Nokia – who have not restricted their smart phones to any particular line up, Sony Ericsson smart phones were restricted to the P series that can boast of highly regarded mobile phone models like the Sony Ericsson P990i and more recently, the Sony Ericsson P1. The Sony Ericsson W950i is the company’s first smart phone to be a part of any other line up other than the P series. Infact, the Sony Ericsson W950i is the current leader of the famous Walkman series of music phone – at least till the launch of its upgraded version – the Sony Ericsson W960i.

The Sony Ericsson W950i is based on Symbian operating system and have a UIQ 3.0 like user interface applied. Built wise, the Sony Ericsson W950i resembles the Sony Ericsson M600i with their shell looking alike, but with a number of differences in their functions and specialties. Unlike the M600i, the Sony Ericsson W950i do not feature a QWERTY keypad, which is logical for a music centric Walkman phone. The PDA styled handset features a large, TFT based touchscreen that can produce more than 262k colours. The handset itself is coloured in Mystic purple.

Being the leader of such a prolific line up like the Walkman series, inclusion of the very best features of all Walkman phones in the Sony Ericsson W950i is obvious. Loaded with the latest Walkman media player v2.0, the Sony Ericsson W950i plays many popular media formats with amazing power and clarity. Bluetooth wireless stereo headset support, 3.5 mm audio jack adopter, a massive 4 GB internal memory pool – the Sony Ericsson W950i is designed for the most demanding mobile music enthusiast. The Sony Ericsson W950i boasts of Flash memory, unlike hard drive modules used in many other mobile phones with bigger memory size. This ensures that the Sony Ericsson W950i is devoid of any kind of lag time as seen in many other smart phones.

Sony Playstation 3 – What Game Will you Play?

sony playstation 4
Raina Kelsey asked:

The debut of Sony Playstation 3 made it the king of all gaming console. The device is designed keeping in mind the modern gamers and of course its competitors the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. The device is a little expensive but if the thrill and ecstasy please you, then why would you mind to pay such a huge premium.

The PSP 3 is a bulky device. It weighs 5 Kgs, almost as five an half playstation 2s. The look is also quite stunning. It comes with a black casing and silver highlights. A lot of powerful technology has been packed in the device too. It comes with Blu-ray drive and support for 1080p high definition (HD) video – the feature that promises the best picture quality.

The device is available in two different versions and both the versions is a treat for the gamers. There is a trick involved too. The 60GB hard disk is great for media functions like storing photos for slide shows, storing music files and storing down loadable contents like movies, demos and trailers. More, the internal hard disk is upgradeable and it is also possible to playback and store media on external USB drivers.

The Sony Playstation 3 includes controls that are wireless and feature motion-sensing technology. Perhaps the biggest advantage of the device is its Blu-ray disc drive that will play the new breed of high-definition (via HDMI output) movies. Perhaps this also proves why the handset is so expensive as compared to the others in the market.

There are some limitation as well. The PSP 3 cannot upgrade DVD movies to higher definition formats, and neither can it stream music or movies from a computer.

The graphics of this device is stunning and it is also backwards compatible with virtually every PS1 and PS2 game.

Sony Playstation Really Did it Big

Samuel Herrick asked:

Sony Play Station a 32-bit video game console was produced by Sony Computer Entertainment in December 1994 marking a revolution in the field of video games. It was the first of the series of console and hand-held game devices. The PlayStation didn’t miss the chance to generate interest in the market with a lot of advertisement campaigns. The PlayStation logo was designed by Manabu Sakamoto, who also designed the logo for Sony’s VAIO computer products. The PlayStation is considered as one of the longest production runs in the video game industry.

This electronic game console had to undergo a variety of variants including the gradual reduction in the number of external connectors on the unit. SCPH-900x series is the last revision to the original PlayStation with the same hardware

Early gamers used to experience skipping of full-motion video or dreaded physical “ticking” noises from the PlayStations. It was due to the poorly placed vents that caused overheating in the plastic moldings inside the console creating knock-on effects with the laser assembly. Later Sony came out with “Dual Shock”, including a controller with 2 analog sticks and a built in force-feedback feature. Colored blue was another version of Sony Play station, followed by colored green. The PlayStation’s capabilities were later expanded with the installation of a modchip, which allowed the playing of games from other regions.

Net Yaroze was introduced as another version of the PlayStation, which was much expensive. It was found to be lacking the features the full developer suite provided. The user found it difficult to officially make actual game discs as the amount of space was small. Sony launched the smallest version of its Play Station, PS one in 2000, which was about one-third smaller than the original PlayStation. Later it also released a small LCD screen and an adaptor that can be used in cars.

Sony Playstations: With Advanced Gaming Features

Samuel Herrick asked:

Electronic giant Sony after anticipation released the Playstation 3 in Japan on November 11. It is to be mentioned that the Playstation 2, the previous edition of Playstation 3 was the bestselling machine. It is a different story that the Playstation3 is equipped by a stupendously powerful chip, the “Cell processor.” Coming at the price of whopping $500 or $600 bucks, very much depending on which version an user buy, plus $60 for each game. Fans of the Sony Playstations are making beeline to buy the gadgets.

It has been seen people are really excited about its Resistance: Fall of Man, which is a truly fun set in an alternative edition of the 1950s. In the game aliens invade earth; the excited part of the game is that your job is to put bullets in them. While the game is on, players of the game will see some gloriously detailed, beautifully gloomy factories and labs and shattered cityscapes. Not to mention the audio is gorgeous, the weapons real and lethal. The levels are huge and complex.

There is lot of many games in the gadget. At this time prices of the games are much higher, and people residing in many parts of the world can’t afford to have this hot potato. Give it time. Yes, give it time. Unless the prices of the Sony playstation come down. According to the business cycle, which obviously applies to each and every business entities - the price will probably come down. Market pundits are apprehensive of the fact that the Sony will come out with more, and more advanced gaming features.

It is worth to mention that the initial systems of Sony Playstations were obtained by hot-shot businessmen who paid mainly Chinese nationals to buy the playstations without any software to resell on eBay. According to Media Create, its opening show 81,639 PS3 systems were sold within twenty four hours of its introduction in Japan.

Sony Playstation 3 - Gaming Console

Adam Caitlin asked:

The PlayStation 3 game console coming out from Sony Computer Entertainment is the third one in the row of game consoles launched by the electronic giant. Marketed officially as PLAYSTION3, and commonly abbreviated as PS3, the third home video game console competes with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles. Released first on November 11, 2006 in Japan, November 17, 2006 in North America and Asia, and March 23, 2007 in Europe and Oceania, the game console enjoys a third place in sales and marketing. The PlayStation 3 is considered as the first console with next-generation primary storage media, Blu-ray Disc, in spite of its supporting to DVDs, CDs, HDDs and with some models SACDs. The PlayStation 3 game console can also play back content from Blu-ray Disc (BD) at a bit rate of multiplex 48Mbps, the maximum bit rate defined in BD standards.

The Sony Playstation 3 game console along with the features of the 20 GB model, the 60 GB model also carries along with it additional features including internal IEEE 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, multiple flash card readers (SD/MultiMedia Card, CompactFlash Type I/Type II, Microdrive, Memory Stick/PRO/Duo) and a chrome colored trim. The hardware used for the 80 GB model released in South Korea was almost same to the 60 GB model released in Europe and Australia. It was only the size of the hard drive that was differing. The North American 80 GB model excluded the PlayStation 2 “Emotion Engine” chip following the South Korean and European models, instead by providing PS2 compatibility via software emulation, which reduced the level of compatibility. It was found that the 40 GB model had two USB ports instead of the four USB ports on other models, and excludes a multi memory card port, SACD support, or any backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 titles.

Until now Sony has not released any official Wi-Fi or flash memory card readers for the 20 GB system, although plans for such add-ons are in place. The second generation PS3s (40 GB) use Cell CPUs of 65nm while at the same time the first generation PS3s (60 GB) use Cell CPU of 90nm. This shows that the system runs cooler requiring less power to operate.
